How to use the Shopify fee calculator

  1. Select your Shopify plan at the top (Basic, Shopify, or Advanced). The calculator automatically fills the rate fields with the plan’s usual values (as of 2026, without guarantee).
  2. Enter your Monthly revenue (€) and Orders per month – ideally as the average of the last three months.
  3. Set the External payment share (%), i.e. how much revenue does not run through Shopify Payments.
  4. If needed, adjust the fields Base fee per month (€), Card rate Shopify Payments (%), Fixed amount per order (€), and External transaction fee (%) to the values of your contract – the results update instantly.

How to interpret the results

The breakdown shows you the Base fee, the Card fees (Shopify Payments), and the Transaction fees (external), each as a euro amount per month. That way you can see at a glance which cost block weighs most heavily at your revenue and order volume.

Below are two key figures: Total cost per month as an absolute sum and Effective share of revenue in percent. The percentage is the better comparison figure: change the revenue or payment mix and watch how strongly it reacts. If the value doesn’t fall as revenue grows, your fees are scaling disproportionately.

Practical tips for realistic numbers

Work with real data instead of estimates: in your Shopify admin, the finance reports show your store’s actual revenue, order counts, and payment mix. Also run two scenarios – a normal month and a seasonal peak like Black Friday – so you know the range of your fee burden.

It is also important what the calculator deliberately does not cover: returns, chargebacks, and currency conversion on international orders create additional costs. To see what remains per sale after all deductions, it’s best to enter the fee percentage into our margin calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate Shopify fees per order?
Shopify fees per order consist of a percentage of the order value plus a fixed amount (e.g. €0.25). Divide the sum of all card fees and transaction fees for a month by the number of orders. The calculator above shows both values separately so you can read them directly.
What does Shopify cost per month in total?
The total monthly cost consists of the plan's base fee, card fees, and any transaction fees for external payment providers. On top of that there are often app subscriptions and other fixed costs. Enter your revenue and order count above to see the effective costs in euros and as a percentage of revenue.
When is the Shopify Advanced or Plus plan worth it?
Higher plans have lower card fees, so the surcharge pays for itself from a certain monthly revenue. Depending on order value and payment mix, the threshold is often already at medium five-figure monthly revenue. Simply compare two plans above with the same revenue data and you will see the break-even.
What is the difference between card fees and transaction fees?
The card fee always applies with Shopify Payments and covers the cost of card processing. The transaction fee is only added when you use an external payment provider like PayPal or Klarna, and is charged additionally on revenue. With Shopify Payments this second fee disappears completely.
How can I reduce my Shopify costs?
The biggest levers are annual instead of monthly billing (around 25% off the base fee), switching to a higher plan with lower percentages, and a regular app audit. Enabling Shopify Payments also saves the transaction fee. Run different scenarios above to find the best path.
